This workshop begins with an overview of best practices in writing instruction, focusing on how to develop students’ functional, critical, and rhetorical AI literacies through AI-enhanced writing assignments. While material builds on last summer’s workshop, the content has been updated and expanded to include new units, such as designing opportunities for students to receive both human peer response and AI feedback, using AI to help develop writing assignments, and a discussion about the benefits and limitations of chatbots.
We will examine generative text, image, and video AIs and discuss their implications for writing instruction across the disciplines. Participants will review examples of AI-enhanced assignments, workshop assignment policies, and explore how AI can be integrated at different stages of the writing process, including invention, research, outlining, revision, peer response, proofreading, and assessment.
Participants will have focused time to work on a writing assignment and assessment and to get feedback from peers and from the Writing Across the University Director (Dr. Paula Rosinski) and Writing Center Director (Dr. Julia Bleakney). Please bring your laptop and any other materials you may need to design your writing assignments, as this will be a working session. $500 for full attendance.
Open to faculty in full-time ongoing positions and staff who teach writing in their programs. If registration reaches capacity, preference will be given to participants who have not attended this workshop before.
