2020 Multimodal Contest Winners
For this year, we have a total of eight submissions throughout the categories. There’s only one category that’s not included and that’s the School of Education. However, this is a step in the right direction in comparison to the previous two years, which is always exciting. The Grand Prize Winner for this year comes from the School of Arts and Sciences again, Marjorie Anne, for her piece “Meeting Muslims.” Congratulations Marjorie, and congratulations to everyone who participated this year. School of Arts and Sciences
The winner for this category, who again was also the Grand Prize winner, was Marjorie Anne for her piece “Meeting Muslims.” The piece is for聽those seeking to learn more about Islam and those who have preconceived ideas about Muslims that may be inaccurate. I also was aiming for it to be a resource for journalists, teachers, and students. The hope was to聽provide people with a different view and understanding of what practitioners of Islam look like in the United States.

The runner-up for this category was Nyah Britt, for their piece about the Growth of Japanese Animation.聽This educational essay for anime fans helps to highlight different aspects of different cultures in the community. It argues that anime is mainstream as opposed to a subculture and informs the audience about anime.

School of Business
The winner for this category, was聽Charlotte Billingsley, for her piece “Extremity.” Unfortunately, the video is private, but it mimicked a “shark tank style,” where the audience was for investors. However it is for those who love to Travel, take photos/videos, and to be adventurous altogether. The purpose of the video is to inspire people to live an extraordinary life.
School of Communications
The winner for this category, was Kristie Chan for her piece, “Trading Strikes for Strokes: A Paraplegic’s Journey of Perseverance.” This video for the adult paraplegic community uses the subject鈥檚 personal experiences to serve as a heartwarming and inspiring lesson to the paraplegic community. His lesson can serve as a persuasive message to change the mindset of individuals who are overcoming a challenging obstacle.

The runner-up for this category was Anna Sizemore for creating an infographic titled, “Kill the USA Death Penalty.”聽This infographic鈥檚 intended audience for this infographic is voters and politicians who are unsure of their stance on the death penalty law in the US or do not know much about the statistics of the death penalty. Its purpose is to聽 inform people about the ineffectiveness of the death penalty and the author hopes it persuades people to vote and stand up against the death penalty laws in the USA.
