What began as a personal bookmobile project is now receiving rave reviews for its impact on the education of young readers during summer vacation.

A new cohort of students begins the Master of Education program this summer, representing 11 North Carolina school districts, two out-of-state districts and five other countries.

 

The former N.C. teacher of the year will start her new role June 26 at the nonprofit that strives to create pathways for success for every child.

School of Education faculty members Alec French, Marna Winter and Jeff Carpenter were recognized on May 17 for their excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship at the annual school awards banquet.   

 

The initiative is part of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Center for Access and Success and pairs tutors with students in all levels of elementary and secondary school to help them succeed in school. 

The School of Education hosted its first Celebration of Excellence event on Thursday, May 4, and recognized outstanding achievements and academic excellence of the class of 2017.

Three faculty members and one student from the School of Education presented at the American Educational Research Association Annual Meeting.

The School of Education and the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity held a Boy Scout Merit Badge College for local Scouts.

Sayag, who graduated in 2011, is a third-grade teacher at McDougle Elementary School in Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. 

The Strong Beginnings for Babies Project is designed for supporting families of infants in discovering strategies that are helpful, culturally relevant, and easy to use for fostering their children’s language development.
