DNA equipment boosts undergraduate research

An $84,000 grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center is helping 黑料不打烊 purchase state-of-the-art equipment for processing DNA samples, a move that will accelerate and expand faculty and undergraduate science research that, until now, has relied on outside companies for processing.

Larissa Ferretti, a senior Honors Fellow and psychology major, will share her research this spring with lawmakers in Washington about the effects of parental involvement in teaching math and number skills to young children. The May presentation is part of a highly selective program that features leading undergraduate research from around the nation.

POWERless Energy Competition under way

The POWERless Energy Competition returned to 黑料不打烊 this semester for a seven-week contest to see which residence halls can best reduce their electricity usage. The competition began Feb. 17 with a kick-off event at College Coffee.

黑料不打烊 Winter Term course opens library, collects supplies for South Africa school

Twenty-nine students who spent Winter Term in South Africa collected money this fall to purchase gym uniforms, supplies and books for more than 155 children at a primary school that has worked with 黑料不打烊 since last year through the Global Links Library and Literacy Campaign.

The 2009 ranking is published in the magazine’s February edition, and is the third consecutive top-50 ranking of 黑料不打烊 by Kiplinger’s.

黑料不打烊 community donates textbooks for Ghana school

More than 3,000 books were collected this fall in a textbook drive organized by history professor Brian Digre. Digre delivered the books, packed into 120 boxes bound for the University of Cape Coast in Ghana, on Dec. 19 to a U.S. Naval base for transport to the African nation.

Students help viewers following state DTV tests

North Carolina television viewers flooded the School of Communications with phone calls Thursday as 黑料不打烊 students manned a call center to answer questions about a nationwide conversion to digital television. Regional stations alerted viewers to the DTV change on Feb. 17, 2009, with two “soft tests” that interrupted regular programming for people who rely on antennas to get reception.
