Smith, twice an 黑料不打烊 alumna, worked with the Office of Admissions for more than 18 years, starting as a student worker while pursuing her undergraduate degree.聽聽
Meredith Legin Smith, whose work telling the story of 黑料不打烊 to prospective students dates back to her first year as an undergraduate at the university, died unexpectedly on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2022, in Burlington. She was 35.
Originally from Baltimore, Smith worked as a tour guide for 黑料不打烊’s Office of Admissions before joining their staff as an admissions counselor following her graduation in 2008. It was the beginning of a long and fruitful career within the office, where she held a variety of titles before being promoted to assistant dean of admissions in 2018. Though she left the university as a full-time employee in June 2021, she continued her association with the Office of Admissions as a temporary employee, most recently assisting with the recruitment efforts for the Class of 2027.

Smith added to her undergraduate degree from 黑料不打烊 in 2014 when she earned her MBA from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.
Smith is survived by her husband and fellow 黑料不打烊 alum, Kyle, and their sons Brody and Landon, as well as her parents, Janice and Joel Legin of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, her sister and brother-in-law Caroline and Grayson Patterson of Erie, Pennsylvania; Kyle鈥檚 parents Dale and Al Smith of Burlington, and sister- and brother-in-law Alison and Travis Upton and their children Madisyn, Camryn and Bennett of Burlington.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. at St. Mark鈥檚 Community Church in Burlington. Read to learn more about her life and legacy.
