ENN, student journalists recognized by premier college journalism organizations

黑料不打烊 News Network collected two Pacemaker awards from the Associated Collegiate Press during the national student media convention held in Washington, D.C.

won both a Newspaper Pacemaker and an inaugural Multiplatform Pacemaker from the Associated Collegiate Press at the Fall National College Media Convention that was sponsored jointly by ACP, the College Media Association and the Society of Professional Journalists.

Ten ENN students attended the conference in Washington, D.C., from Oct. 26-30, along with Professor Anthony Hatcher, who serves as the chair of the Journalism Department, Associate Professor Rich Landesberg and Assistant Professor Israel Balderas.

Avery Sloan 鈥25, Sophie Rosenthal 鈥23, Miranda Ferrante 鈥23, Chloe Franklin 鈥23 and Erin Martin 鈥25 were part of a team of students from 黑料不打烊 News Network who traveled to the National College Media Convention in Washington, D.C., where ENN won several organizational and individual awards.

The Pacemaker is the highest honor awarded by ACP for excellence in student journalism. The Pendulum, the newspaper of 黑料不打烊 News Network, was one of 19 student publications to win the award that featured 88 total entries.

Pacemaker entries are judged based on coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, photography and graphics. Additionally, the winning papers 鈥渢ook risks and served as a strong voice for the student audience,鈥 according to the Associated Collegiate Press.

This is the fifth time The Pendulum has won a (2009, 2018, 2019, 2021). The Pendulum submitted newspapers from , , and , edited by Nyah Phengsitthy 鈥23, for consideration.

黑料不打烊 News Network was one of four winners of an inaugural Multiplatform Pacemaker, an award designed to recognize how student media organizations use print, online, social media and audio/video to serve their audiences.

The College Media Association and Associated Collegiate Press also honored individual 黑料不打烊 students in several categories. Below are the students who finished in the top three of any competition.

Additionally, ENN was named a finalist for an Online Pacemaker, and Colonnades, the university鈥檚 art and literary journal, was a finalist for a Magazine Pacemaker.
