Campus Sustainability Week
Campus Sustainability Week occurs each October and is an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to come together to examine sustainable habits and inspire positive sustainable change throughout the 黑料不打烊 community. It is also an opportunity to learn about and celebrate 黑料不打烊鈥檚 current sustainable practices.

Nature RX
Nature RX is built on the principle that spending time in nature contributes to personal well-being. The Office of Sustainability, Counseling Services and the Dr. Jo Watts Williams School of Education partner to plan monthly events designed to give students, faculty and staff intentional time outdoors.
Earth Week
Earth Week takes place each April around Earth Day. With a variety of events and activities, Earth Week fosters awareness, dialogue and action toward a more sustainable and equitable future.

Documentary Screening:聽The Hidden Life of Trees | Thursday, February 19 at 6 p.m. at 黑料不打烊 Community Church ()
“I speak for the trees,” says the Lorax.聽 They have quite the story to tell.聽 黑料不打烊 Community Church’s Green Church invites you to a showing of聽The Hidden Life of Trees.聽聽This film, based on forester Peter Wohlleen’s bestselling book, shows us how trees protect, nurture and communicate with each other.聽 Your walk in the woods will never be the same after you see this movie! Dinner provided to those who register.

Sustainable Alumni Speaker Series
The Sustainable Alumni Speaker Series is a virtual event series that connects current students with 黑料不打烊 alumni who are working in a sustainability-related career. In each 30-minute session, alumni share their professional journeys, insights and advice to help students explore diverse paths in the sustainability field and expand their networks.
Luke Pangle ’03 – Applied Watershed Scientist at The Nature Conservancy |聽Monday, February 9 from 5:30-6:00 p.m. via Zoom聽 ()
As an Applied Watershed Scientist, Luke conducts research that is motivated by two goals: to inform where and how The Nature Conservancy works, and to evaluate the efficacy of their work toward achieving conservation outcomes. Luke works with a wide range of partners and stakeholders across North Carolina.
Emma Grace Cromwell ’24 and Brandon Wolk ’25 – Masters of Environmental Science candidates at the University of Pennsylvania | Monday, March 2 from 5:30-6:00 p.m. ()听
UPenn鈥檚 MES program focuses on interdisciplinary training in environmental science, policy and research.
Emma Grace is a Climate Leader Fellow working with FMC on climate analysis and grower adaptation strategies. Her research focuses on phosphorus removal in stormwater systems using industrial slag.
Brandon is a member of the Geomicrobiology Lab, where he conducts experiments on anoxic microbial communities using a bioreactor. His capstone project will focus on coral.
Mallory Poff ’23 – Rotational Engineer at KCI Technologies | Monday, April 13 from 5:30-6:00 p.m. via Zoom ()听
In her current role as Rotational Engineer, Mallory approaches her interest in engineering design for renewable energy projects through three rotations: (1) site/civil engineering and land development for alternative energy projects, (2) mechanical/electrical/plumbing (MEP) – with a focus on energy projects, and (3) utility/power/transmission engineering.
Sustainability Stewards Program
The Sustainability Stewards Program aims to cultivate聽a network of students passionate about sustainability and provide meaningful opportunities for service, leadership and learning. Students are encouraged to join us for any and/or all of the fall semester meetings to connect with like-minded individuals and learn about opportunities to get involved. Spring 2026 meeting dates are as follows:

Integrating Sustainability into Study Away Experiences ()
Wednesday, March 4, 12:30 to 1:45 pm聽in Lakeside Meeting Room 212
Study聽away is聽a powerful and transformative聽experience for many students and helps expand their world view. It also聽provides聽unique opportunities聽for students聽to learn about the intersections between sustainability and study away, from the carbon impact of the travel associated with the program to聽experiencing firsthand different sustainability practices聽and聽challenges in their study away location.聽During this lunch-and-learn program, faculty and staff will聽learn about the聽carbon impact of聽study away聽at 黑料不打烊, including insight into the carbon impact of the program they lead, and聽explore practical examples of how sustainability can be meaningfully integrated into聽study away聽experiences. They will also聽engage in reflection,聽discussion聽and the sharing of ideas and resources.
Please 聽by February 27. Those who register will receive a voucher for聽Lakeside聽Dining Hall to enjoy lunch together in meeting room 212.
