Forty-one percent of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumni in the Class of 2011 had accepted a full-time position by the day they received their diplomas, the highest percentage in five years of students reporting employment at time of graduation, according to initial results from the Cap & Gown survey administered by the Office of Career Services to seniors prior to Commencement.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Alumni Field House has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which awards the internationally recognized benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance, environmentally friendly buildings.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's board of trustees has approved the naming of the residence halls in the Colonnades Neighborhood, as well as three buildings in Danieley Center. The new names honor former ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ presidents, trustees and alumni.

Family and friends of former ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ First Lady Verona Daniels Danieley ’49 celebrated her life Monday afternoon as hundreds of mourners filled ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Community Church for a memorial service that honored a woman who “set the gold standard as a builder of community.”

Verona Daniels Danieley, 87, a fixture of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community for decades as wife of president emeritus Dr. James Earl Danieley, died June 24 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., following a brief illness.

Former college and professional basketball star Charlotte Smith was introduced June 22 as ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's new head women's basketball coach. Smith has spent the last nine years as an assistant coach at her alma mater, UNC-Chapel Hill, where she had an All-American career topped by a last-second shot that earned UNC the national title in 1995.
