Ten alumni participated in a Sept. 21 Zoom call to welcome first-year students to ���ϲ����� and the school’s accelerated training program for news reporting, documentary filmmaking and non-fiction storytelling.

The eight-week summer program was created in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and provided aspiring public relations professionals with access to top agency executives and webinars on strategic planning, data, social media strategy and crisis communications.

Nearly 50 ���ϲ����� students, alumnae and faculty joined the Sept. 15 conversation to discuss on how the ���ϲ����� community can demonstrate authentic allyship in the media industry.

The dean of the School of Communications will lead a virtual panel discussion on Monday, Sept. 21, addressing issues and findings outlined in the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s new study, “In Our Voices."

Kari Taylor ’09, ���ϲ�����’s deputy chief of staff, spoke to students during a Sept. 15 online meeting about her experience as a woman of color in the television and film industries.

Seventeen members and guests of the School of Communications Advisory Board met online on Sept. 15 to discuss their professional industries, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and how the school can better educate and prepare students.

The networking initiative welcomed prospective students and hosted a discussion about Beyoncé’s new movie, “Black Is King,” examining the impact of representation in the media industry.

The ���ϲ����� alumna will serve on the channel’s senior leadership team and lead inclusivity initiatives in the newly created position.

This year, new and returning Communications Fellows traded their usual ice cream social for Zoom and trivia. Nevertheless, the Aug. 27 event allowed first-year Fellows to connect virtually with upperclassmen and hear about their experiences in the Fellows program.

The class of 2024 consists of 35 students across the School of Communications’ six undergraduate majors.
