ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law’s Moot Court Board is pleased to announce the 20 members of the class of 2015 who have been selected for membership on the Board.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law students, please join us on Tuesday, Oct. 15 at noon (Room 204) for the first speaker in this year’s Business Law Speaker Series. Rick Berry is the Senior Vice President and Director of Case Administration for the Financial Industries Regulation Authority (FINRA). FINRA protects investors by writing and enforcing rules and regulations that govern the activities of brokerage firms and brokers. FINRA also administers the largest forum specifically designed to resolve disputes between and among investors, securities firms, and individual brokers.  

The entry deadline is Dec. 13, 2013, for a student competition focused on human rights that will award cash prizes totaling $3,600. Categories include: research papers, journalism, electronic media, creative writing, photos, and world languages

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law invites currently enlisted, active duty, reservists or veterans of the United States military to its Veterans Recruitment Day on Friday, November 8, 2:15pm-4:15pm at the law school.

An expert on property issues impacting poor and/or minority communities, University of Wisconsin Law School Professor Thomas W. Mitchell will deliver a speech at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law, titled, "Leadership and Law Reform: Developing Model Statutes to Promote Social Justice." 

Hayley Sherman and John Boschini won the final round of the Sixth Annual ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law Intramural Moot Court Competition held on September 30. Genna Petre and Bree Shadrick were the first-runner up team. Shadrick was also named “Best Oralist from the Final Round,” and Michael Costolo was named “Best Oralist from the Preliminary Rounds.”  The team of Katie Lester and Mark Henkle took “Best Brief” honors.

The Open House is scheduled for Friday, October 25 from 2:15 pm to 4:30 pm. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ welcomes anyone considering law school or seeking more information about the law school admissions process to attend this event. 

In a recently published article, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law Professor Tom Molony identifies ambiguities in federal law and judicial frameworks that have attempted to define when fraudulent activity is connected to securities transactions. Molony’s article also poses solutions to the lack of clarity in this area of law. 

The third edition of the online Journal of Leadership and the Law, published October 1, highlights a recent publication of John Alexander, former President of the Center for Creative Leadership and Distinguished Leadership Coach In Residence at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law.

The current chief scientist at Fusion-io will share his insights in Alumni Gym on Oct. 3, 2013, at 3:30 p.m. about the need to promote creativity and innovation in a technical environment. A Q&A in Whitley Auditorium takes place at 1:15 p.m.
