Pamela M. Kiser, Watts-Thompson Professor in the Department of Human Service Studies and interim dean of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ College, the College of Arts and Sciences, has been named ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s fourth Distinguished University Professor.

Alison Morrison-Shetlar, vice provost and dean of undergraduate studies at the University of Central Florida, Orlando, Fla., has been named dean of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ College, the College of Arts and Sciences, and professor of biology at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. Her appointment by Provost Steven House comes after a national search.

Marilyn Cochran-Smith, a national expert on teacher education research, comes to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ on March 10 for an evening lecture that explores a current school focus on testing, and how educators can use their teaching in the service of social justice.

The Phi Beta Kappa Society, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic society, has voted to establish a new chapter at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. The decision was made Oct. 2 at the Society’s 42nd Triennial Council in Austin, Texas. The 57 ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ faculty and staff who are Phi Beta Kappa members will receive a charter, and the chapter will be officially established in spring 2010. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s formal application for the chapter was submitted in November 2006 by Russell Gill, Maude Sharpe Powell Professor of English and chair of the faculty’s Phi Beta Kappa Committee.

Andrea Dorrow, an economics and business major and one of the inaugural Lumen Scholars, was featured in the annual report of the Beit CURE International Hospital in Malawi. As part of her Lumen Scholar research, Dorrow spent time in the southeast African country studying the role that minimal healthcare plays in determining the economic health of a developing nation.

Faculty and staff have started their move into Lindner Hall, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's newest academic building, as work crews this week continue exterior work on what will be the “greenest” facility on campus upon completion.
