L'Tanya Richmond, a 1987 ���ϲ����� graduate and former director of ���ϲ�����'s Multicultural Center, was awarded the ���ϲ����� Medallion on Saturday, April 25, at the university's annual Phillips-Perry Black Excellence Awards ceremony .

He grew up in a slowly dying Midwestern city where few of his school classmates ever dreamed of overcoming the challenges of living in an impoverished community. Leon Williams, however, did, and he has dedicated his career to helping others achieve their goals.

From the level of interest that many African-American male students show toward schooling, to a lack of adequate role models in high schools, leading voices from North Carolina historically black colleges and universities gathered Feb. 26 at ���ϲ����� for a panel discussion on how to address issues affecting minority participation in higher education.

���ϲ����� students partnered with members of ���ϲ����� First Baptist Church this week to help local residents with maintenance and improvement projects during the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Congress initiated the nationwide program in 1994.

Six panelists expressed excitement – as well as concerns – when discussing the Obama presidency during a Jan. 16 program sponsored by the Multicultural Center, Phi Beta Kappa, the Council on Civic Engagement and the Office of Civic Engagement.
