Six new members make up the 38th class of the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Sports Hall of Fame. The six inductees were recognized during a halftime ceremony of the Phoenix vs. Presbyterian College football game Sept. 13.

Two ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ football players, wide receiver Terrell Hudgins and quarterback Scott Riddle, were among 10 athletes nationwide named as "players to watch" in a USA Today article that previewed the upcoming season on Aug. 22.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alum Deborah Yow ’74, now serving as director of athletics at the University of Maryland, will be the first woman ever to head the Division 1A Athletic Directors’ Association when she takes office in September.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's men’s basketball, women's cross country, women's golf and volleyball teams are among NCAA Division I teams receiving public recognition awards for their latest multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. The public recognition awards, announced by the NCAA April 24, are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.

The no. 2 seed UNC Wilmington Seahawks posted 11 runs in the top of the ninth inning to down the no. 3 seed ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Phoenix 15-11 on June 1. The loss ends ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's competition in this year's NCAA post-season play.

The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Phoenix defeated the College of Charleston Cougars 17-8 on May 25 to claim the 2008 SoCon tournament title.  ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ improved to 43-16 and claims the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. 

The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Phoenix will enter the upcoming 2008 Southern Conference Baseball Championship as the number one seed after winning the regular season title outright with a 19-8 SoCon mark. The Phoenix finished one game ahead of College of Charleston (18-9) whose loss on the last day of the regular season gave ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ the title outright. It is the second SoCon title for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in three seasons.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Faculty Athletics Representative Vicki Hightower has been honored by the Southern Conference as one of 11 recipients of the league's 2008 Distinguished Service Award.
