On Friday, October 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., the first annual ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law Alumni Homecoming Celebration will take place in The Loft space of Natty Greene's, 345 South Elm Street in Greensboro.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law professor and senior scholar Jeffrey Kinsler has been elected to The American Law Institute (ALI), the leading independent organization in the United States producing scholarly work to clarify, modernize, and otherwise improve the law.

On Thursday, October 29 at 7:30 p.m., ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School of Law will host a public debate to explore whether North Carolina should maintain its current system of judicial elections or move to a system of judicial selection. James G. Exum, Jr., former Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, will argue for a move to judicial selection, and Wade E. Byrd, a North Carolina/Fayetteville attorney and past president of the North Carolina Academy of Trial Lawyers, will defend the system of judicial elections.

Third-year ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law student Bernard Brown recently co-authored an article on the impacts of patenting and the patent review process on the emerging field of nanotechnology, with Womble Carlyle Sandridge and Rice attorneys Greg Grissett and Jack Hicks.

The Office of Career Services at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law recently began a series of employment planning forums for law students, with attorneys from a variety of practice settings offering advice on how to prepare for and cultivate career opportunities in diverse arenas of the legal profession.

In support of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School of Law, the Stanley and Dorothy Frank Family Foundation, together with sons William A. Frank and Barry S. Frank, has dedicated $100,000 to create the Carole W. Bruce Endowed Scholarship at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law.

On September 26, the faculty and administration of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School of Law welcomed more than 300 students, friends and family members for the law school's second annual Family and Friends Day, introducing ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law families to the law school experience.

On September 10, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School of Law hosted the first in a series of receptions scheduled for the 2009-2010 academic year, welcoming members of the legal profession to meet with law students and faculty. The event marks the fourth year in which the law school has offered the series of monthly networking opportunities.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Law professor Eric Fink addressed Mitchell Community College students, faculty and staff on September 8, the day after Labor Day, delivering a speech titled, "The State of the Unions: U.S. Labor Today."
