ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary organization for financial information students and professionals, was awarded “Gold chapter” status during the national organization’s annual conference this month in Denver. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ was one of seven chapters to achieve the honor, which is the highest award level a chapter can receive.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ President Leo M. Lambert used his opening of school address on Monday morning to emphasize the financial constraints that many families face when deciding on college, and how ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ must continue to expand its scholarship offerings to students at a time of national economic uncertainty.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ President Leo M. Lambert announced this week a special campus initiative to collect and distribute school supplies to hundreds of homeless children in Alamance County and to children at a school in Afghanistan who struggle for access to basic educational materials.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ chaplain emeritus Richard McBride, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ trustee Dr. William N.P Herbert ’68 and retired vice president Nan Perkins received ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Medallions on Aug. 22, 2011, in an annual ceremony that celebrates the highest honor the university bestows on individuals for their meritorious service to the institution.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Campus Shop will be moving from Moseley Center to its new location in the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Town Center at 130 N. Williamson Ave. next to the Acorn Coffee Shop this week. The bookstore will reopen as Barnes & Noble at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ on Monday, Aug. 22. Movers will be in the Moseley location on Tuesday, Aug. 16, and Wednesday, Aug. 17, to move items to the new location. Both locations will be closed Aug. 18-21 in order to move the technology and register systems.

The best and brightest of the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business were honored April 14, 2011, in an afternoon awards ceremony that highlighted the achievements of both students and faculty.

They look and feel the same as the caps and gowns used in previous ceremonies, but when candidates for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Master of Education participate in their Aug. 20, 2011, Commencement exercises, as part of the university’s sustainability commitment, their regalia contained fabric made from 100 percent recycled plastic bottles.

Thirty-nine students in the Master of Education program received their ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ degrees Saturday morning in a Commencement ceremony featuring a keynote address from professor Judith Howard, the longtime director of the education graduate program who retires this month after serving the university since 1993 as a teacher, researcher and mentor.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity has been named one of the best in the nation and was recently recognized by the national organization with the Buchanan Cup, an award that showcases outstanding chapter performance and named for former fraternity grand president Edwin Buchanan.
