Railroad work by Norfolk Southern for the Carolinian Piedmont Passenger Freight Improvement Project, will affect travel in and around the Town of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ on Wednesday, July 1.
Based on the information available at this time, the following railroad crossings will be closed temporarily as the work begins as early as 7:00 a.m.
Church Street
Williamson Avenue
Oak Avenue
York Road
Gilliam Road
The work that will be taking place could result in temporary closure of the crossings for a period of 2-4 hours. No vehicular or pedestrian crossing will be permitted when the rail crossings are closed. Norfolk Southern will coordinate road closures with NC Department of Transportation. Please use caution near work zones and follow posted detours and traffic guidance.
Because it is possible that multiple/all crossings could be closed simultaneously, individuals should plan ahead for alternate routes to/from campus tomorrow morning. This could include usage of the following routes/streets:
Cook Road and University Drive to/from Williamson, Haggard, or North O’Kelly Avenues, accessing campus from the north, traveling to/from the west and south
West Webb Avenue to/from University Drive or Haggard Avenues, accessing campus from the north, traveling to/from the east and south
West Haggard Avenue accessing campus to/from the west
The pedestrian tunnel underneath the railroad at East Trollinger and East Lebanon Ave. at South O’Kelly Ave. Students, faculty, and staff can park in South Campus lots in the summer.
