Five Love School of Business students captured third place of 20 universities at Northern Kentucky University鈥檚 Econ鈥疓ames 2025, marking 黑料不打烊鈥檚 first podium finish in the national analytics contest.
Five students from the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business brought home a third鈥憄lace win from .
The win marked the first time an 黑料不打烊 team has placed in the national case competition. The roster鈥擜va鈥疨lage, Casey鈥疭teinert, Hannah鈥疕awtof, Hope鈥疪osen and Nick鈥疍accurso鈥攐utperformed 16 universities and finished behind only the University of Dayton and Denison University with Olivia Healy, assistant professor in economics, serving as faculty advisor.
The competition was a debut for each student and, for most, a first taste of data鈥慸riven case work.
鈥淢y goal was simply to learn more about economic consulting,鈥 said Hope Rosen 鈥28, a marketing and economic consulting double major from Morris Plains, New Jersey. 鈥淧roblem solving with real information showed how classroom lessons translate to the world.鈥
Teamwork emerged as the week鈥檚 biggest lesson. 鈥淚 wasn鈥檛 certain what role I would play on the team,鈥 said Casey Steinert 鈥28, a finance major from Long Island, N.Y. 鈥淭aking a risk on a story鈥慺irst approach showed that effort and clear communication can match advanced analytics.鈥
The students also gained perspective on futures in economics. 鈥淚t improved my confidence and helped me realize I have the capabilities to pursue economics,鈥 said Nick Daccurso 鈥28, an accounting and economic consulting major from Howell, N.J.
Each teammate encouraged other first鈥憏ears to enter next year鈥檚 Econ鈥疓ames.
鈥淭he Econ聽Games may seem intimidating, especially for first鈥憏ears,鈥 said Hannah Hawtof 鈥28 from Baltimore, Maryland. 鈥淏ut the event pushes you to collaborate, speak up and become a better student.鈥
