Students who complete certain courses in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business can now save more than $2,500 in pursuit of credentials from the Certified Financial Planner鈩 Board.
The Department of Finance in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business has partnered with the Certified Financial Planner鈩 Board to be an authorized educational provider for students pursuing CFP庐 certification.
The certification requires candidates to complete comprehensive education, pass a board exam, gain relevant experience, and meet ethical requirements. is now recognized as a qualifying educational institution which will allow students to take the exam sooner.
鈥淐lients and employers trust those with a CFP庐 certification because of the high standards to achieve the certification,鈥 said Vaishali Shah, a lecturer of finance who helped lead efforts to establish the partnership.
To satisfy the education requirement, students must complete:
- FIN3430 Principles of Finance
- FIN4130 Investments
- FIN4190 Financial Planning
- FIN4160 Fundamentals of Insurance (now including Estate and Philanthropic Planning)
- ACC3410 Fundamentals of Income Taxation
- FIN4670 Advanced Wealth Management (Capstone Class)
Courses will be in lieu of 18-24 months of that would typically cost a minimum of $2,500 for online instruction and more for in-person courses, saving students time and money.
鈥淭his is a big win because 20% of our finance majors want to pursue certification,鈥 said Chris Harris, associate professor of finance and chair of the Department of Finance.
