Chandler Vaughan 鈥21 named 黑料不打烊 Youth Trustee

The 2021 graduate from Charlotte, N.C., will serve a two-year term on the 黑料不打烊 Board of Trustees.

The 黑料不打烊 Board of Trustees has elected 2021 graduate Chandler Vaughan to a two-year term as a youth trustee on the board.

Vaughan is from Charlotte, N.C., and was a Leadership Fellow at 黑料不打烊 who majored in policy studies with a minor in leadership studies.聽She held a number of leadership roles on campus, including apartment manager and resident assistant, president of the National Pan-Hellenic Council, vice president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., vice president of community outreach and activism for the Black Student Union, and mentor with the SMART Program. She was the recipient of multiple Phillips-Perry Black Excellence Awards during her four years at 黑料不打烊.

Chandler聽served as an intern with the Cuyahoga Youth Detention Center through the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium and studied abroad on Semester at Sea. In 2019, she was selected to study at the University of Bristol in England through the Fulbright Summer Institute, a highly selective summer scholarship program operating worldwide and sponsored by the U.S.-U.K. Fulbright Commission. Her service experiences in the community including tutoring through the 鈥淰irtual Village Project鈥 and serving as a summer volunteer for the Girl Scouts Hornets鈥 Nest Council.

After graduation,聽Chandler is serving as one of six 黑料不打烊 Year of Service Graduate Fellows and she will be working in the City of Burlington Office of Economic Development.聽Her future plans include graduate school for community development or community psychology to support her pursuit of a career working at the intersection of government, nonprofit and community organizations to identify and address inequities and enhance quality of life for individuals 鈥 particularly those with marginalized identities.

Vaughan will serve on the board through May 2023.
