Martha and Spencer Love School of Business seniors Meghan Murray ’21 and Alexandra Pirsos ’21 are among the 100 seniors honored in Poets & Quants’ “” list.

Entering its sixth year, the Best & Brightest features seniors from the business education news outlet’s who personify the best in business education. Students were selected on factors such as “academic excellence, extracurricular leadership, personal character, innate potential, a striking personal narrative, and overall impact on the program.”

���ϲ�����’s Love School of Business is ranked No. 45 among the best undergraduate business schools in the country by Poets&Quants.

While at ���ϲ�����, Murray, a finance and international business double major from Maryland, has served as a vice president for business fraternity Alpha Kappa Psi, undergraduate representative on the Love School of Business Board of Advisors, and student co-chair of ���ϲ�����’s Women in Entrepreneurship conference. She’s taught financial literacy lessons to elementary school students as a Junior Achievement volunteer and raised funds for Duke Children’s Hospital and Health Center through ���ϲ�����thon. After graduation, the Honors Fellow will join EY as a business consultant.

In response to Poets&Quants’ question about what surprised her the most about majoring in business, Murray answered the “amount of career paths that stem from majoring in business.”

“I originally had a more limited understanding of business careers, thinking most students become entrepreneurs or end up in investment banking, accounting, wealth management, or marketing,” Murray said. “I now realize that while many do pursue those careers, there are plenty more options that I never even knew existed (like consulting, which is what I will be doing after graduation). And if students don’t find an existing career path that fits them, they can decide to forge their own.”

Originally from New Jersey, Pirsos, an analytics major and accounts-based marketing analyst intern for the ���ϲ����� Center for Organizational Analytics, will continue her studies after graduation in the M.S. in Analytics program at N.C. State University.

At ���ϲ�����, the Business Fellow served as the president of Alpha Kappa Psi, which gave her the opportunity to host a virtual 5K for the business fraternity’s philanthropy, The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.

“After months of planning, the event was cancelled when we were sent home due to COVID-19,” Pirsos said about the fundraiser. “Our executive board quickly repurposed the event into a digital steps competition, where we raised $7,300 for the AFSP and registered 520 participants. I am most proud of this accomplishment because it shows that by working together, you can creatively solve any problem and spread kindness even through times of despair.”

Pirsos also held leadership roles as an Orientation Leader, the assistant director of dancer relations for ���ϲ�����thon, and a Panhellenic Association recruitment counselor.

“I learned that problems are not as always as black-and-white as they may appear,” Pirsos told Poets&Quants about the biggest lesson she’s gained from studying business. “Business is all about analyzing the opportunity cost of your decision and evaluating the results. There may not necessarily be a ‘right’ answer.”
