Kenn Gaither, associate dean in the School of Communications and professor of strategic communications, has been . A leading resource in public relations through the University of Alabama, The Plank Center provides resources, content and leadership in the public relations industry.

Gaither was one of two new members added the center’s Board of Advisors, joining Scott Vazin, group vice president and chief communications officer for Toyota Motor North America. As part of this week’s announcement, the center also named Bridget Coffing, most recently senior vice president of worldwide corporate relations for McDonald’s Corporation, as the board’s incoming chair.

“The Plank Center is an engine for change and evolution in public relations, and its mission to mentor the next generation of leaders, promote diversity, equity and inclusion in public relations and serve the greater good represents ideals our profession – and our global society – sorely needs,” said Gaither in The Plank Center’s Jan. 25 announcement.

Having worked professionally in the public relations industry for nearly a decade, Gaither has extensive understanding of the field. In addition to teaching courses in mass communications, public relations and international communications, he has published research in journals, including the Journal of Public Relations Research and Public Relations Review. Gaither has also authored three books, most recently “Globalization and Public Relations in Postcolonial Nations: Challenges and Opportunities.”
