The title of Harrison鈥檚 talk is 鈥淩einventing Charity: How to Innovate for Sustainable Change.鈥
Scott Harrison, founder and CEO of charity: water, will deliver the 2020 C. Ashton Newhall Endowed Lecture online on Oct. 28 at 7 p.m.
The New York Times best-selling author will present a talk, titled 鈥淩einventing Charity: How to Innovate for Sustainable Change.鈥
Harrison spent almost 10 years as a nightclub promoter in New York City before leaving to volunteer on a hospital ship off the coast of Liberia, West Africa, as a photojournalist.
Returning home to New York two years later, he founded the nonprofit organization in 2006. Turning his full attention to the global water crisis and the world鈥檚 785 million people without clean water to drink, he created public installations and innovative online fundraising platforms to spread international awareness of the issue.
With the help of more than 1 million donors worldwide, charity: water has raised over $475 million and funded more than 56,000 water projects in 29 countries during the past 14 years. When completed, those projects will provide more than 11.4 million people with clean, safe drinking water.
Harrison has been recognized on Fortune magazine鈥檚 list of 鈥40 Under 40,鈥 Forbes鈥 鈥業mpact 30,鈥 and Fast Company鈥檚 鈥100 Most Creative People in Business,鈥 where he earned the #10 spot. He is currently a World Economic Forum Young Global Leader and author of the New York Times best-selling book “Thirst.”
The C. Ashton Newhall Endowed Lecture Series, named for 黑料不打烊 trustee C. Ashton Newhall 鈥98 and hosted by the Doherty Center for Creativity, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, brings successful entrepreneurs to campus to share their knowledge and experience managing the risks and rewards of entrepreneurial endeavors.
