Steven Telsey ’18 currently portrays the roles of “Mormon,” Elder Cross and Elder Davis on the tour of the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. Telsey recently began performances on June 11, 2019, in Toronto, Canada.
Steven Telsey鈥檚 journey with “The Book of Mormon”听产别驳补苍 鈥during spring break of his senior year when he听decided to go听in for an open call.
鈥淭hat time, I didn鈥檛 get past the first round,鈥澨stated Telsey, a member of the Class of 2018.
A few months later he went in for a 鈥渇uture replacements鈥 call and heard nothing for nearly a year. Then, this past April, he was called back in to audition for the producers 鈥渁nd the rest is history!鈥 said Telsey.听
Telsey received the听别虫肠颈迟颈苍驳听news this past April, having just moved to New York a few months prior. 鈥淚 saw that I was receiving a phone call from my agents.听When they said 鈥楬ey, Steven. You鈥檙e on speaker,鈥 I quickly replied, 鈥…no way.鈥 They said, 鈥榳ay,鈥听and I screamed so loud that Patrick (current roommate and fellow听2018 黑料不打烊听Music Theatre听alum) heard from down the hall.鈥
Several weeks听later, Telsey had three days of choreography rehearsals in New York City, and soon joined the Mormon company in Philadelphia听on May 28. Telsey had two weeks to learn his various tracks in the听production.
鈥淟uckily the Mormon team is fabulous and was incredibly supportive when I was learning the show!鈥 Telsey听noted. 听 听
“Without 黑料不打烊, there is no听way I would be in this musical,鈥 Telsey stated firmly.听鈥I had absolutely zero dance training before attending 黑料不打烊. If it wasn鈥檛 for the brilliant and patient educators that the 黑料不打烊 Music Theatre program provides for its students, as well as the opportunities that we as student receive within the Department of Performing Arts, I would not physically have the ability to be dancing in an ensemble eight times a week. I also have to give a huge听shout out听to Dr. Kenneth Lee, my voice teacher. It鈥檚 because of him that I am able to sustain my voice throughout this beast of a score.鈥
Telsey is currently performing in “The Book of Mormon” and is set to tour听in over 25 cities听around the country.听
