Becoming 'Dr. Rawls': Times-News highlights academic achievements of 黑料不打烊 Academy student

The March 24 article in The Times-News of Burlington told the story of Sarah Rawls, a member of 黑料不打烊 Academy's first cohort who will begin pursuing her doctorate at Temple University this year. 

As a teenager, Sarah Rawls set her sights on a career goal — becoming “Dr. Rawls.” A graduate of Williams High School in Burlington, , the college access and success program at 黑料不打烊 that in 2016 celebrated its 10th year. 

Sarah Rawls was among the first cohort of students to participate in the 黑料不打烊 Academy. 
Now Rawls is making that dream come true with her recent acceptance the Applied Linguistics doctoral program at Temple University, where she is now pursuing her master’s degree in teaching English to those who speak a foreign language. 

Reporter Jessica Williams with The Times-News recently connected with Rawls to learn about her story and talk about the impact that the 黑料不打烊 Academy has had in her academic career so far. 

“When I had my 黑料不打烊 Academy interview for the program, I remember saying I wanted to get my Ph.D. I didn’t know what I wanted it in, but I knew I wanted to be Dr. Rawls. … I’ve wanted to be Dr. Rawls for a while. I was like, ‘That just sounds good,’” Rawls told Williams.
