SEM class, Student United Way chapter assist nonprofit initiatives

Members of the “Facilities and Venue Management” course, offered by the Department of Sport and Event Management, and Student United Way chapter volunteered this semester with several United Way of Alamance County events.

Assistant Professor Cara McFadden鈥檚 鈥淔acilities and Venue Management鈥 course, in conjunction with members of the Student United Way chapter at 黑料不打烊, volunteered during the spring semester with several聽 events.

Working closely with 黑料不打烊 alumna Lauren Berk 鈥15, a marketing and events coordinator for United Way of Alamance County, the students volunteered at the , featuring area law enforcement members and county officials, and , a daylong event celebrating the food and drinks of Alamance County to raise funds for the local community.

鈥婦uring the events, 黑料不打烊 students served in a variety of roles, ranging from officiating basketball games to tearing down equipment and cleaning staging areas.

Members of the “Facilities and Venue Management” course and Student United Way chapter assisted with the cleanup and teardown of Taste of Alamance 2016. 

鈥嬧淭he experience was created to have students gain experience outside of 黑料不打烊鈥檚 campus in the local community and to gauge the important role volunteers have in sporting events and partnered events in a community,鈥 said McFadden.
