As part of the university’s Evening for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ spring series, two recent events drew more than 350 guests.
More than 200 people turned out for the Boston event, held in the State Room at the top of Sixty State Street building. Guests heard remarks from President Leo M. Lambert, who delivered a university update, as well as Director of Athletics Dave Blank, who encouraged the crowd to “live the maroon life” by supporting ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in its move to the Colonial Athletic Association in 2014-15.
ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ trustee Dave Porter P’11 also addressed the group, sharing ways to stay involved at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ and the power of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ connections to aid in job and internship searches.
“Boston’s Evening for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ was an excellent opportunity to hear from President Lambert about the incredible progress ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ continues to make as a university,” says Hayley Gravette ’06. “It was also great to learn more about ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s transition to the Colonial Athletic Association.
“I think I speak for many of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s alumni in the Northeast when I say how excited I am to be able to attend games and support my alma mater close to home. Visiting with old friends and making new ones all while cheering on the Phoenix will be a great way to stay connected to the university.”
A March 27 Evening for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ at Sony Pictures Studios in Los Angeles brought together alumni, faculty, staff, parents, and prospective students. Current students studying and interning in the area as part of the university’s ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in LA spring program also attended.
President Lambert headlined the event, touching on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s past successes and programs such as ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in LA as well as the future direction of the university. Tim Johnson ’09, president of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Los Angeles alumni chapter, introduced the chapter’s new board members and shared plans about the creation of the chapter’s first mentorship program. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ parents John Fukunaga and Cheryl Shojinaga helped secure the venue for the event.
“I really enjoyed being able to engage with current and prospective ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students, professors, and Dr. Lambert,” says Chris Sulva ’15, a student in the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ in LA program. “It was wonderful to connect with so many others who share my ties to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ, and I’m looking forward to attending alumni events like this after graduation.”
Each year, the Office of Alumni Engagement hosts Evenings for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ to strengthen connections between the university and alumni, parents and friends around the nation. Upcoming events are scheduled in Charlotte on May 8 and Raleigh on May 15.
