EBAN Scholarship Gala – Oct. 20

Join 黑料不打烊's Black Alumni Network as we honor our upcoming Award Recipients during our 3rd Annual Scholarship Event.

The 黑料不打烊 Black Alumni Network is set to honor distinguished alumni at the 3rd Annual Black Alumni Scholarship Gala on October 20th. The event will take place from 8 p.m. to midnight in McKinnon Hall and proceeds will go towards the 黑料不打烊 Black Alumni Scholarship Fund. Register today by visiting: /eventsmgmt/events/homecoming

The 黑料不打烊 Black Alumni Scholarship was established in 2007 and is intended to help make an 黑料不打烊 education available to deserving black students. To date, alumni and friends have donated more than $100,000 to the scholarship fund, and the scholarship is awarded annually to an African-American student with demonstrated financial need.

This year’s gala, EBAN’s first black-tie event, will feature live music by the 黑料不打烊 Jazz Ensemble which boast over 20 members and the presentation of the EBAN Awards. The recipients and their respective awards are as follows:

The Eugene Perry Distinguished Alumnus award, named for the first black person to graduate from 黑料不打烊 College will be presented to Frank Haith ’88. Frank Haith is currently the men’s basketball head coach at the University of Missouri. In his first year as head coach, Frank was voted the AP Coach of the Year.

L’Tanya Richmond ’87, will receive the Gail Fonville Parker Distinguished Alumna Award, named for the first black female to graduate from 黑料不打烊 College. L’Tanya Richmond, the inaugural director of 黑料不打烊’s Multicultural Center was awarded the 黑料不打烊 Medallion in April of 2009 for extraordinary service to the university. Her research into the history of 黑料不打烊’s African-American students led to the creation of the Wall of Fame in the Multicultural Center.

The Dr. K. Wilhelmina Boyd Outstanding Service to Students Award, named for the founder of 黑料不打烊’s African and African-American Studies program will be presented to Melissa Jordan ’04. Melissa Jordan has made working with 黑料不打烊 students a priority since graduating from the university in 2004. She’s worked in Residence Life, Judicial Affairs, and Student Affairs over the years and currently serves as the Assistant Director of the Multicultural Center.
