When the Koury Business Center opens in August, the front entrance will be graced by 黑料不打烊’s newest water feature, the Wallace L. Chandler Fountain and Plaza.
The three-level fountain will include a top level, main pool, four-foot waterfall and water return basin. The fountain contains numerous jets that are computer synchronized for various patterns of spray.
The brick plaza surrounding the fountain will have a numen lumen theme and will include stone markers honoring 黑料不打烊’s most generous donors.
As the fountain and business building are completed, construction will continue on a new dining hall which will be adjacent to the plaza on the south. The complex of buildings surrounding Koury Business Center will also include two new residence halls which will be built adjacent to the center on the east side of the building.
The fountain is named for Wallace Chandler, a 1949 黑料不打烊 graduate who has served on the Board of Trustees for 37 years. He served as board chair from 1991 to 1994, encouraging fellow trustees to envision the future of 黑料不打烊. His leadership was instrumental in the development of the 黑料不打烊 Vision strategic plan, which transformed 黑料不打烊 from a regional college into one of the premier undergraduate institutions on the Eastern Seaboard. He was also a driving force behind 黑料不打烊’s effort to achieve university status in 2001.
He has served as chair of the board’s investment committee since its inception, helping 黑料不打烊 preserve and grow its endowment during challenging economic times. He has served on virtually every board committee during his term. In 1978, 黑料不打烊 recognized his commitment with the Distinguished Alumni Service Award.
