Accreditation information

The Clinical Mental Health Program at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is accredited with The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) and is designed align with the standards established by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). The curriculum promotes the development of professional knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary for effective, ethical, and culturally responsive counseling practice.

Program coursework is organized around the eight CACREP core areas, which serve as the foundation for counselor education programs nationally. Through comprehensive academic instruction, supervised clinical experiences, and professional engagement, students acquire the competencies required to deliver effective mental health counseling services across diverse clinical settings.

At this time, the CMHC program is not yet accredited by CACREP. Consequently, graduates are not eligible to apply for licensure as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) in the state of North Carolina until CACREP accreditation is obtained. Per CACREP, since ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is seeking initial accreditation, students will only be considered graduates of a CACREP-accredited degree program if they receive their degree within eighteen (18) months prior to when the accreditation is granted. Upon accreditation, graduates who meet all additional requirements may become eligible for licensure in North Carolina and, depending on individual state regulations, in other states as well.

Because licensure requirements differ across jurisdictions, students intending to practice outside North Carolina should review the Professional Counseling State Licensure Disclosure Statement to determine how the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ CMHC curriculum corresponds to specific state requirements.
