More than 1,600 new ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students were surrounded by friends and family Under the Oaks as faculty, staff and students celebrated the formal start of the academic year. 

The ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community turned out Friday morning to help more than 1,600 new and transfer students move to campus as the 2017-18 academic year prepares to begin. 

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ President Leo M. Lambert presented the medallion to five retired faculty and staff members for their meritorious service to the university during an event marking the start of a new academic year. The university also recognized four endowed professorships and two longtime professors were named Distinguished University Professors. 

Polk joins the team with a vision for a re-energized and welcoming Jewish Life on ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's campus.

The award is given to advisers yearly in recognition for their contributions to their campus media outlets.

Staff expands to serve growing Jewish student body

For the fourth straight year, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ places in the top 20 of the full Hearst Journalism Awards.

Tyrone Guy Jean comes to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ from Duke University, where he has served since 2011. 

Stephanie Hays '18 was honored for her design work. Two other students were named national finalists in the same contest.

The promotions are among several student life staffing changes that took effect June 1.
