An Alamance County family has donated to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ a quarter acre next to the northern edge of campus near Rhodes Stadium, where a two-room wooden building first opened before the Civil War still stands as one of North Carolina’s original public school facilities.

About 2,500 books donated by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students faculty and staff are headed to the library at the University of Ghana. The book drive was coordinated by Brian Digre, professor of history and leader of ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Ghana Winter Term program.

David Crowe, a professor of history and author of books on Oskar Schindler and World War II, spoke with Katie Engelhart at Maclean's magazine in Canada for a feature story this month on an elderly man charged with war crimes for his role as a guard in a Nazi concentration camp six decades ago.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ professors Clyde Ellis and Yoram Lubling have been selected as Senior Faculty Research Fellows for the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 academic years. A recommendation from the Presidential Task Force on Scholarship, the competitive program was estabalished to support senior faculty in their ongoing scholarly work.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ has received a grant of nearly $116,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to organize two history seminars next summer for community college professors from across the nation. Assistant professor John Beck authored the grant proposal and will co-direct the project with Jim Bissett, the William J. Story, Sr. Professor at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ.

History professor David M. Crowe has edited a special edition of Nationalities Papers titled Crimes of State; Government-Sponsored Atrocities and International Legal Responses, Past and Present.
