Associate professor Jessica Gisclair was named the School of Communications' new associate department chair this summer to help accommodate the increasing number of faculty and students in the school.

The new facilities that will serve as the headquarters for ���ϲ�����'s new interactive media master's program provide sophisticated computer technology and a comfortable environment for the 37 graduate students.

Networking. It's a buzz word that certainly caroms through the halls of ���ϲ�����'s School of Communications. Students are taught to make connections and establish relationships with human resources personnel, internship directors and professionals in the media field. They do it because one day, even the most chance encounter could lead to an internship or a job.

Peter Kiwitt, an assistant professor in the School of Communications, was a consulting producer for FilmNation Entertainment in Los Angeles this summer.

Anthony Hatcher, an associate professor in the School of Communications, was elected the vice head of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication's Religion and Media Interest Group, which puts him in line to be the head of RMIG in 2010-2011.

Paul Wagner finds niches. He's built a career on identifying a target audience and giving it the products it wants. He's a savvy businessman, who's worked as a greeting card writer, product developer and, out of necessity, a storyteller because in the business world, he says, you have to spin a tale if you're going to sell a product.

Tom Nelson, an associate professor of communications, was interviewed by Kansas Public Radio this week for his documentary "Prisoners of Plenty," a film that recounts the lives of German POWs imprisoned in Kansas during World War II.
