Two students and a faculty member from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Better Together group attended an intensive three-day interfaith leadership training institute at Georgetown University's Berkley Center for Religion, Peace and World Affairs July 25-28.

Media entrepreneurship comes in many sizes and would-be entrepreneurs should consider how their passions might grow into full-blown enterprises, said associate professor Michelle Ferrier at the National Association of Black Journalists in Philadelphia on Aug. 12-13 in Philadelphia.

Twelve faculty members and a 2010 graduate of the School of Communications participated in the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC) national conference in St. Louis from Aug. 10-13.

Byung Lee, an associate professor of Communications, presented research and served as a the main instructor for a full-day workshop at two professional conferences in August.

School of Communications visiting professor Brian Walsh produced a 20-minute documentary this summer about Bushwick Creek, a small inlet of water off the East River that nestles between the towns of Greenpoint and Williamsburg in Brooklyn, N.Y.

The Society of Professional Journalists named ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s student chapter the SPJ Region 2 chapter of the year. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s organization was one of 10 nationwide that were also recognized.

Two 2011 ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ School of Communications graduates will have documentaries they produced while part of elondocs air on UNC-TV at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 16 and 18.

Interactive Media graduate Bradley Mu G’11 recently placed third in a contest sponsored by the University of California-Berkeley School of Journalism that asked participants to redesign and improve the nutritional food label. His entry, along with the first and second place winners, was featured in the Well blog on the New York Times website.

In her Media Writing class a couple of semester ago, rising senior Katie O’Brien wrote a mini biography that discussed, among other things, her career aspirations. If someone could be both profoundly certain and surprisingly unsure of her future at the same time, it was O’Brien.
