The National Science Foundation has awarded 黑料不打烊 chemistry professor Joel Karty a three-year, $181,000 research grant to work with undergraduates assisting him in his ongoing study of two types of molecular phenomena that govern chemical stability.

Since coming to 黑料不打烊 in 1987, professor Eugene “Gene” Grimley has focused much of his energy on helping to build a strong chemistry program. He’s now turning his attention to an even bigger stage as the new president of Phi Lambda Upsilon, the national chemistry honor society with tens of thousands of active members across the United States.

Earl Danieley recognized by United Church of Chapel Hill

The United Church of Chapel Hill is celebrating its centennial anniversary, and on May 23, 2010, the church unveiled a bronze plaque listing all of its former pastors, including 黑料不打烊 president emeritus J. Earl Danieley.

For the second consecutive year, 黑料不打烊 junior Amanda Leigh Clark has been recognized with an honorable mention in the Barry M. Goldwater Scholarship Program, which awards scholarships to students planning for careers in science, math or engineering.

黑料不打烊’s 2010 Founders Day celebrations concluded Thursday, March 11, with a “fireside chat” with President Emeritus J. Earl Danieley ’46. Members of the audience were treated to tales about Danieley’s life and his many experiences at 黑料不打烊 as student, faculty member, administrator and president.

Kathy Matera named to A.L. Hook science and mathematics professorship

Kathryn Mansfield Matera, associate professor of chemistry, has been selected as the third recipient of the A.L. Hook Emerging Scholar Professorship in Science and Mathematics at 黑料不打烊. The professorship provides funding and opportunities for faculty to mentor students and involve undergraduates in research and special projects.
