More than 5.3 million Americans suffer from Alzheimer’s disease, a form of dementia that impairs memory and behavior. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ senior Caroline Peckels is analyzing compounds found in walnuts that may one day lead to new treatment for patients with the degenerative condition, and her work is the latest to be featured in a series of E-net profiles on Lumen Scholars in the Class of 2011.

The United Church of Chapel Hill is celebrating its centennial anniversary, and on May 23, 2010, the church unveiled a bronze plaque listing all of its former pastors, including ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ president emeritus J. Earl Danieley.

Members of the audience were treated to tales about Danieley’s life and his many experiences at ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ as student, faculty member, administrator and president.
