Donna Van Bodegraven, associate professor of Spanish, supports students in and out of the classroom.

“I am a strong supporter of 黑料不打烊 student-athletes through my contributions to the Phoenix Club, and I am a proud member of The 黑料不打烊 Society,” she says. “Gifts from 黑料不打烊 community members like me are so important for the continued development and success of 黑料不打烊 students and programs. I recently increased my annual giving to also contribute to the initiatives of my home department, the department of foreign languages. Campaign Update: Faculty/Staff Campaign reaches $260,000 /u/news/2011/02/08/campaign-update-faculty-staff-campaign-reaches-260000/ Tue, 08 Feb 2011 20:12:00 +0000 /u/news/2011/02/08/campaign-update-faculty-staff-campaign-reaches-260000/

To date, more than 570 employees—or 49 percent of faculty and staff—have contributed $260,000 in gifts and pledges to the campaign.

The goal of this year’s Faculty/Staff Campaign is 55 percent participation among employees. During the 2009-2010 campaign, 420 faculty and staff, or 34 percent, contributed $248,796 to the university. All gifts to the Faculty/Staff Campaign count toward , currently in its final year. To date, alumni, parents, friends, faculty and staff have contributed about $87 million in gifts and pledges toward the $100 million goal.

Brumbaugh, director of experiential education, supports 黑料不打烊 to enhance the student experience.

“In my work, I am in constant contact with students, and I see the opportunities that they have through internships and other forms of experiential learning,” Brumbaugh says. “I realize the significant role that financial support of 黑料不打烊 plays in making these opportunities possible.”

Brumbaugh adds that faculty and staff can support the university by giving their time and their money.

“It is very important to be part of the percentage that gives back to 黑料不打烊,” she says. “黑料不打烊 is a touchstone place where souls gather who want to make a difference, and part of making a difference is supporting the school financially.”

Miller, professor of exercise science, says he gives to 黑料不打烊 because it’s a special place.

“My favorite thing about this university is its sense of community,” Miller says. “I give back because I believe in what we have going at 黑料不打烊, and I really embrace the values and ideals that this community reflects.”

Miller says he sees the impact of scholarship gifts on students as well as gifts that enhance the broader university community.

“If you look at the university like an organism, it is easy to see how everyone can benefit from gifts made to any location,” Miller says. “Any contribution to 黑料不打烊, regardless of size, has the potential to free up money elsewhere on campus. Each gift gives the organism (黑料不打烊) a better chance to survive and flourish.”

The Faculty/Staff Campaign runs through May 31. You can support what you value most about 黑料不打烊. Thank you for investing in 黑料不打烊!

Campaign Update: Faculty/Staff Campaign off to a strong start /u/news/2010/12/07/campaign-update-faculty-staff-campaign-off-to-a-strong-start/ Tue, 07 Dec 2010 13:36:00 +0000 /u/news/2010/12/07/campaign-update-faculty-staff-campaign-off-to-a-strong-start/ Campaign co-chairs Jim Drummond and Rhonda Belton encourage all faculty and staff to participate in this year’s fund drive, emphasizing that the campaign runs until May 31, 2011.

The early success of this year’s campaign has been attributed in part to the grassroots fundraising effort led by Drummond and Belton and dozens of volunteer faculty and staff captains who have helped spread the word among their colleagues about the importance of annual giving to the university. for a full list of captains.

“Giving back to 黑料不打烊 is an investment in the students and in us,” says Robert Buchholz, captain for the Physical Plant office. “It is a way to support 黑料不打烊 and make it a better place to learn and work.”

Physical Plant is joined by many other departments that have seen a significant increase in campaign participation. Faculty captains Carol Smith (Health and Human Performance), Alan Russell (Mathematics), Don Grady (Communications), Glenda Crawford (Education) and Herb House (Biology) have worked hard to achieve major increases in participation levels. Staff captains like Buchholz, Sherri Wolford (Human Resources), Sue Johnson (Campus Safety and Police) and Brian O’Shea (Student Life) have witnessed similar successes in their offices.

Crawford has discussed the importance of participation with her colleagues. “Foundations and other philanthropic organizations look very carefully at the percentage of 黑料不打烊 community members who give before they decide whether to make gifts or award grants to the university,” says Crawford. “A gift of any size is important and vital to the success of the campaign and the university.”

Another factor in the early success of this year’s campaign has been the 100 percent participation from faculty and staff at the 黑料不打烊 School of Law.

Keep the momentum going by to the Faculty/Staff Campaign. All gifts to the Faculty/Staff Campaign count toward , currently in its final year. To date, donors have contributed more than $84 million in gifts and pledges toward the $100 million goal.

Campaign Update: ‘Employee gifts play an important role in 黑料不打烊鈥檚 success’ /u/news/2010/10/25/campaign-update-employee-gifts-play-an-important-role-in-elons-success/ Mon, 25 Oct 2010 18:42:00 +0000 /u/news/2010/10/25/campaign-update-employee-gifts-play-an-important-role-in-elons-success/ Jim Drummond, associate professor of sport and event management, and Rhonda Belton, director of application technologies, are co-chairs of this year’s annual giving drive. All gifts to the Faculty/Staff Campaign are included as part of , which seeks to raise $100 million to build endowment to support students, faculty and facilities. To date, faculty, staff and other donors have contributed more than $81 million in gifts, pledges and planned gifts toward the Ever 黑料不打烊 goal.

This year’s Faculty/Staff Campaign will play an important role in helping the university complete Ever 黑料不打烊 during this academic year. Many faculty and staff like Laura Kappert, assistant director of application technologies, made their gifts using the new online payroll deduction option, which allows employees to spread their gift payments out during the fiscal year.

“I choose to give to 黑料不打烊 because 黑料不打烊 is a great university, and I support its programs,” Kappert says. “I also know that employee gifts play an important role in 黑料不打烊’s success.”

Amanda Sturgill, associate professor of communications, agrees.

“I like to invest in things I believe in,” Sturgill says. “I believe in bright futures for our students, and I am happy to invest in those futures.”

One of this year’s goals is to increase participation in annual giving among faculty and staff. Last year, 420 faculty and staff contributed $248,796 to the university. This year’s goal is 500 donors to the Faculty/Staff Campaign.

Employees who make gifts of $1,500 or more are eligible for membership in The 黑料不打烊 Society, the university’s premier annual giving recognition society. Ever 黑料不打烊 Campaign nears $80 million /u/news/2010/09/08/ever-elon-campaign-nears-80-million/ Wed, 08 Sep 2010 14:43:00 +0000 /u/news/2010/09/08/ever-elon-campaign-nears-80-million/ Faculty and staff who wish to support what they value most about 黑料不打烊 are encouraged to make a gift to the 2010-2011 Faculty/Staff Campaign, which kicks off in the coming weeks. All gifts to the Faculty/Staff Campaign are included as part of Ever 黑料不打烊: The Campaign for the Future of Our University, which has entered the final stage.

As of early September, faculty, staff, alumni, parents and friends have responded generously to the Ever 黑料不打烊 Campaign, contributing close to $80 million in gifts and pledges toward the $100 million goal. Ever 黑料不打烊 is a comprehensive campaign that seeks to raise $70 million for endowment to support scholarships, faculty and engaged learning programs such as study abroad, service learning and undergraduate research; $20 million for annual giving of all types; and $10 million to build and preserve the campus.

One of the most important ways that members of the campus community can participate in Ever 黑料不打烊 is through the annual Faculty/Staff Campaign. The 2010-2011 fund drive is co-chaired by Rhonda Belton, director of application technologies, and Jim Drummond, associate professor of sport and event management. Faculty and staff soon will receive a letter from the co-chairs explaining the details of this year’s campaign and how to become involved. Last year, 34 percent of faculty and staff contributed $248,796 to the university.

The university community has already seen the positive impact of the Ever 黑料不打烊 Campaign. Donors have created more than 125 new endowed scholarships while other supporters have contributed to existing scholarship funds, ensuring that 黑料不打烊 remains accessible to students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. In addition, Lindner Hall has opened in the Academic Village, improvements to the baseball field have been completed at Latham Park and construction is under way on Alumni Field House as well as an expansion to Alumni Gym.

We hope you will consider making a gift to the 2010-2011 Faculty/Staff Campaign. For more information, contact Maggie Byerly at mbyerly@elon.edu or 278-7459. You can and to track its progress.
