In January 2009, Megan Bonstein '06 was living her dreams in New York City when doctors told her she had chronic myelogenous leukemia. Two years later, she's in recovery and determined to help others suffering from blood cancers in the New York area. She's one of 12 nominees for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's (LLS) 2011 New York Chapter Man and Woman of the Year Award - and she needs the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ community's help to win.

Professor Anne Bolin co-chaired an presented two invited sessions at the Society for Applied Anthropology meeting in San Francisco from March 29-April 2, 2011, in which an ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumna also presented on her work with Bolin while an undergraduate student.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ trustees gathered with Phoenix athletics fans and many other friends of the university to dedicate Alumni Field House on April 16. The 30,000-square-foot facility at the north end of Rhodes Stadium in the North Athletics Complex serves as the headquarters for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s sports programs.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumna Jenny Vanyur and associate professor Cindy Fair have had an article, "Sexual Coercion, Verbal Aggression, and Condom Use Consistency Among College Students," published in the most recent volume of the Journal of American College Health.

Associate professor Cindy Fair and Lauren Taylor '10 presented research at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria, where more than 20,000 attendees converged for the July 18-23 event.

Associate professor Cindy Fair and ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumna Taylor Morrison '10 have co-authored an article published in Midwifery based on Morrison's ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ College Fellows project, “The relationship between prenatal control, expectations, experienced control, and birth satisfaction among primiparous women."

Wade Barnes '04, vice president for consumer lending at First Mariner Bank in Baltimore, Md., was named to the inaugural "20 in Their Twenties" list selected by the Maryland Daily Record, a statewide business and legal newspaper.

Rebecca Johnson Mastin '93, principal of Mulberry Elementary School in Wilkes County, N.C., received the county's principal of the year award on March 28. Mastin will now compete with principals of the year from more than 20 school systems in northwestern North Carolina for regional principal of the year.

A record 1,394 young alumni made gifts to ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ as part of the IGNITE Challenge in March, exceeding the 1,200 donor goal and helping to bring in $480,939 to the university. By surpassing the donor goal, young alumni enabled ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ to receive bonus gifts totaling $40,000 from ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ alumna and trustee Kerrii Anderson '79 and a group of nine young alumni. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ is grateful to all young alumni who participated in the Challenge.
