Paula Weller, lecturer, and Linda Poulson, associate professor, both in the Department of Accounting in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, recently published a paper titled, “Sarbanes-Oxley and the Need for Audit Committee Independence: Contrary Evidence in the Textile Industry.”

Associate Professor Alex Yap looks at the way today’s markets use computer programs to buy and sell stocks, bonds and commodities.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary organization for financial information students and professionals, was awarded “Gold chapter” status during the national organization’s annual conference this month in Denver. ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ was one of seven chapters to achieve the honor, which is the highest award level a chapter can receive.

A team of four ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ business school students won first place this month in a national case competition that measured the ability to interpret, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and communicate a solution to a management accounting problem.

The announcement of two major gifts highlighted a 25th anniversary gala event for ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Students, faculty, staff and friends of the school gathered Feb. 5 to kick off a yearlong celebration of the school's founding in 1985. The gala featured the announcements of major gifts by ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ parent and trustee David Porter and the Martha and Spencer Love Foundation.

Art Cassill, a professor of accounting, has been named ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ's first Wesley R. Elingburg Professor. Cassill was recognized during Fall Convocation on Oct. 23, where ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ trustee Wes Elingburg and his wife, Cathy, were in attendance for the presentation. It was their generous gift to the university that made possible the endowed professorship.

Dozens of recruiters from regional and national accounting firms met with ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ students Monday evening in the Koury Business Center in what has become one of the largest events of the year for the Beta Alpha Psi finance and accounting honors organization.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s Lambda Chi chapter of Beta Alpha Psi has achieved “Superior Chapter” status and was recognized by the national organization this summer as the “Most Improved Chapter” for 2008.
