In it you will find a reluctant father-to-be, a flying man, some not-so-competent federal agents and a pirate.

You can listen to Perry read excerpts and share his thoughts during a public reading:

Tuesday, March 18
7 p.m., Johnston Hall (South Campus)

This is your chance to learn more about the book Dave Barry calls “sweet, soulful, smart, and funny as hell.” (No wonder Amazon.com named it “Best Book of the Month” when it was released.)

WGS Movie Screening of “Slut” – April 20 /u/news/2010/04/16/wgs-movie-screening-of-slut-april-20/ Fri, 16 Apr 2010 12:14:00 +0000 /u/news/2010/04/16/wgs-movie-screening-of-slut-april-20/ Please join us for the last film in this year’s Women’s and Gender Studies Film Series. Yes, it’s called Slut, and it’s an exploration of that word and its impact on women in our society. After the film, we will chat for a while, of course. Here’s the info.

When: This coming Tuesday, April 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Where: McEwen 011

What: “Slut, A Journey to Get a Word Banned”

About the film: It’s just one word – but it is sexist, discriminative, and extremely powerful. Being labeled a ‘slut’ can destroy a woman’s self-perception, irrevocably tarnish her reputation and even drastically alter her destiny. This film explores the root of the word and traces its evolution through interviews with academics, feminists, physicians, and authors, as well as women that were called “slut.”

The discussion afterward will be facilitated by Michelle Trim.

Her fiction has been published in many literary magazines, including The New Yorker and The Atlantic Monthly.

The New York Times had this to say about her: “Her prose reads as if it grew up drinking water that had been fluoridated with traces of John Updike and Ann Beattie.”  Pretty good, huh?
