Martin’s paper was titled “The Necessary Mistakes and Ethical Reductions of Rights-based Social Movements.” Martin’s article, “Toward an Ecological Pragmatism: Shedding the Ideology of Human – Animal Hierarchy” was also published in the 2011 SAPES Yearbook.

Deadline to withdraw from half-semester courses is Feb. 23

Thursday, February 23rd, is the deadline for withdrawing from a half-semester courses that meets during the first half of the spring semester. Withdrawal forms can be picked up in Academic Advising and must be completed with signatures for submission to the Registrar’s Office.

Managing a Chronic Health Condition in College support program for students – Mondays through Oct. 24

The group serves as a support, resource, educational opportunity, and social network by giving participants opportunities to learn from each other. Discussion topics will be determined by the concerns of the group but may include: relationship strains, medication issues, getting adequate sleep, campus resources and barriers to class attendance.

It is important to note that in order to participate in this group you will NOT be required to disclose any information about your situation/illness that you do not feel comfortable sharing. Also, participants are not required to attend all meetings – come as you are able. You are encouraged to invite others (roommates, friends, others with chronic health conditions) to come with you.

During the fall semester we will meet on Mondays, 5:30 – 6:30 p.m. on the following dates: Sept. 19 & 26, Oct. 3, 10 & 24 in the Truitt Center for Religious & Spiritual Life, Room 105 (401 E. College Ave., across from the tennis courts).

Last day to drop a half-semester course is Nov. 11

Students are allowed to drop half-semester courses that began in the second part of the semester through Thursday, November 11.

Drop forms are available in the Academic Advising Center and must be completed with signatures and submitted to the Registrar’s Office by the end of the day on November 11.

“Laughing at our differences” screening – Oct. 26

In recognition of Disability Awareness month and the 20th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), there will be a screening of the film “Laughing at Our Differences” on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in McKinnon Hall (Moseley Center).

This 45-minute stand-up comedy about diversity and disability awareness stars paralympic ski racer Josh Sundquist. In his performance, Josh shares humorous stories from his own experience as an amputee and incorporates motivational lessons to promote understanding between individuals of differing backgrounds. Josh will be available for questions via video conferencing after the film.

��ϲ��’s first Disability Awareness Month and event is co-sponsored by: the Disabilities Services Office, Truitt Center, Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning, R.N. Ellington Health and Counseling Center and the Isabella Cannon International Centre.
