As part of Habitat for Humanity’s efforts to raise awareness of housing insecurity in Alamance County, students from the ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Campus Chapter of Habitat hosted a discussion forum on affordable housing at the Oak House in ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ. N.C. Sen. Rick Gunn and Sonyé N. Randolph, community development administrator for the City of Burlington, came to share their different viewpoints and involvement on the topic, as well as how students could take action.

Student-athletes are engaging Alamance-Burlington School System students at Hillcrest Elementary through pen pal letters, a courtside visit to a game and attending the 2020 CAA Women’s Basketball Championship.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ student-athletes participated in more than 1,000 hours of service in our community this fall with partners such as the Alamance Burlington School System, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s GET (Girls to Empowered Teens) program and Christmas Cheer.

During Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week, ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ Dining and Campus Kitchen are collaborating to help fight food insecurity in Alamance County. Donate five canned goods at Lakeside Dining Hall and receive a free meal. In addition, the Faces of Homelessness Panel will be Monday, Nov. 11.

ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ student-athletes more than doubled their volunteer presence with nearly 40 serving in second year with Garrett Elementary’s reading initiative as part of the Read Across America program.

 

The Fraternity & Sorority Community partnered with Campus Kitchen to host a food drive as part of Greek Week that collected food for local community partners, Allied Churches and Salvation Army, to serve those suffering from food insecurity in Alamance County.

 

Audrey Kennett '21, a member of the women’s golf team, showed up to Habitat for a build shift over a year ago and is now joining the campus chapter’s leadership team as next year’s service coordinator.

 

In partnership with ºÚÁϲ»´òìÈ’s campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity, the Interfraternity Council is participating in the second annual Stud-a-Thon, working to complete the 28th house built by our campus chapter.

A member of the women’s cross country and track and field teams, Dellapa served with Habitat for Humanity in both North and South Carolina this spring and became the first student-athlete to complete a service-learning ELR workbook.
