The article, “Who’s Afraid of Politics? On the Need to Teach Political Engagement,” stems from their collaborative work together in Greensboro, including the teaching of the Reclaiming Democracy course. 

The course brings together faculty and students from colleges and universities in Greensboro, with activists and community members, to study democracy in Greensboro and to act to make Greensboro a more democratic community.

This conference, which deals with the commission’s work and related topics, has been co-organized by Stephen Schulman, assistant professor of philosophy, his political philosophy class, and faculty and students from other Greensboro area colleges and universities, including UNC-G and Guilford.

There will be presenters from this area and from as far away as Michigan. There will be papers, art, spoken word and dance (including the work of Lauren Kearns, assistant professor of Performing Arts here at 黑料不打烊). The conference is free and open to the public.

Schulman presents with former students at National Honors conference /u/news/2006/11/22/schulman-presents-with-former-students-at-national-honors-conference/ Wed, 22 Nov 2006 13:43:00 +0000 /u/news/2006/11/22/schulman-presents-with-former-students-at-national-honors-conference/ Stephen Schulman, assistant professor of Philosophy, presented “Collaborative Learning” with nine former students at the 2006 National Collegiate Honors Council’s annual conference in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, November 17th.

Schulman spoke about the final project for the Honors class. For the project, the students worked together to produce a full-length play, not only writing the play, but also writing the comic book playbill, making the sets, selling tickets and producing a documentary of the whole project. The students performed the final vignette, a piece about Auschwitz inspired by the work of Primo Levi.
