Take Back the Night seeking submissions

EFFECT and WGS are hosting this spring’s Take Back the Night on Wednesday, March 5, in Whitley at 7:30 p.m. to raise awareness on ��ϲ��’s campus about the issues of sexual assault and violence.

One component to this night is the sharing of personal stories of sexual assault/violence. If you have a story you’d like the share, or the story of someone you know, please contact Rebecca Kuhn (co-President of EFFECT) at rkuhn@elon.edu

EFFECT stands for ��ϲ�� Feminists for Equality, Change, and Transformation. WGS is the Women and Gender Studies program at ��ϲ��.

Seeking community submissions/talent for EFFECT

��ϲ��’s feminist organization, EFFECT, is seeking contributions for its fall event, The New ‘F’ Word: Empowering Women for Change and Leadership, which is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007, at 7:30 p.m. This event is geared towards celebrating and emphasizing why feminism is important for the empowerment of women.

We are looking for volunteers from any member of ��ϲ��’s community – students, faculty, and staff alike – to speak, perform, or otherwise contribute to the program. We are looking for your personal expression of feminism and empowerment that can be presented in a 5-10 minute block of our event’s program. Your expression of feminism and empowerment can be in any medium you see fit – testimony, poetry (your own or a favorite), film clips, musical performance, interpretive dance, etc.

If you are interested in contributing to this event to celebrate feminism and the empowerment of women, please contact Rebecca Kuhn (rkuhn@elon.edu) ASAP.

Bake sale for gender pay equity on Oct. 31 and Nov. 2

This Wednesday and Friday EFFECT will be hosting a bake sale in Moseley from 10 a.m. – 2.p.m to raise awareness of the pay discrepancies between genders.

HOMEMADE TREATS will be available: 75 cents for women and $1 for men.

Please come out and support this up-and-coming feminist organization.

Feminist organization interest meeting Sept. 4

EFFECT – ��ϲ�� Feminists for Equality, Change, and Transformation is an up-and-coming feminist organization focused on creating an inclusive social community for fellow feminists, raising education and awareness of what feminism is on campus, and participating in several activist projects locally and nationally.

Our first meeting of the semester is Tuesday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m. in Belk 206. We will be discussing potential events and projects for this semester!

We look forward to seeing you there!

Help orphans in Uganda go to school, Jan. 23-24

All proceeds go to the Nyaka School, which provides free education and extracirricular activities for 160 orphans in Uganda.
