· Received reports on academic reorganization, graduate education and shared governance.

· Approved a $62.3 million budget for fiscal year 2000-2001. The cost of attending 黑料不打烊 (tuition, fees, room, and board) will be $18,441, a 5.7% increase.

· Elected Burney Jennings ’87, Robert T. “Bobby” Drakeford ’86, and Mari Behrend Straub ’82 to membership on the Board. Elected Walter Campbell “Cam” Tims ’00 youth trustee. Awarded trustee emeritus status to the Honorable Elmon T. Gray, Dr. R. Leroy Howell ’51, W. E. “Dub” Love, Jr., and Janie Crumpton Evans Reece. Awarded president emeritus status to Dr. J. Fred Young.

· Heard that the market value of the College endowment is $52.7 million.

· Received the report of the Facilities Master Plan Committee.

· Heard senior music theatre majors Corey Bradley, Dan Callaway, Nancy Snow, and Becky Titleman perform.

· Heard a progress report from the NewCentury@黑料不打烊 Planning Committee.

· Learned about 黑料不打烊’s undergraduate research program from Dr. Rosalind Reichard, Dr. Maurice Levesque, and Scott Weckerly.

· Promoted Dr. Brian Digre and Dr. Rosemary Haskell to professor and Dr. R. Clyde Ellis, Dr. Mary Jo Festle, and Dr. Laura Helvey to associate professor. In other College actions, Dr. Grace Bass, associate professor of education, Dr. Ellis, Dr. Festle, and Dr. Helvey were either awarded professional status or granted tenure. Professional status and tenured faculty appointments are reserved for outstanding full-time faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in teaching, scholarship and service to the institution.

Her sons have commissioned a portrait of Dr. Williams as a gift to the College. The conference room will be formally dedicated when the portrait is hung.

Das II, Dr. Bradley J. Hamm, Dr. Catherine A. King, Pamela M. Kiser, Dr. Byung S. Lee, Dr. Kevin J. O’Mara, and Dr. R. Barth Strempek. Ms. Kiser and Dr. Anthony Weston were promoted to professor and Dr. James O. Brown, Dr. Das, Dr. Hamm, Dr. King, Dr. Lee, Dr. Maurice J. Levesque, Dr. Gregory A. Lilly, Dr. O’Mara, and Dr. Stempek were promoted to associate professor.

President Leo M. Lambert previously granted professional status to Dr. Brown and Dr. Levesque.

  • Applying technology to the performing arts with Professor William M. Webb

  • Undergraduate publishing and information design with Dr. Timothy A. Peeples

• Heard a report on law education and directed President Lambert to appoint a broad-based committee to study the feasibility of a school of law at 黑料不打烊

• Learned that Chair Noel Allen would appoint a committee of trustees to conduct a Board self study

• Received a report on a revised faculty tenure/tenure-track system that will raise the percentage of tenure and tenure-track appointments to approximately 80% and learned that President Lambert has approved the phaseout of the professional track and approved new types of more mainstream non-tenure-track appointments

• Saw possible site plans for the Koury Business Center and learned that Trustee James Powell, M.D., has agreed to chair the Koury Business Center fund-raising campaign

• Heard an update on 黑料不打烊’s Southern Conference athletic schedule

• Promoted Dr. Glenda W. Crawford, Dr. E. Eugene Gooch III, Michael E. Sanford, and Dr. Wohni J. Synn to professor and Dr. Stephen P. Bailey, Dale J. Becherer, Dr. Susan A. Chinworth, Dr. Joyce A. Davis, Dr. Stephen B. DeLoach, Dr. Heidi Glaesel, Dr. J. Todd Lee, Dr. Janet S. MacFall, Dr. Paul C. Miller, Dr. Betty N. Morgan, and Dr. Fredrick J. Rubeck to associate professor.
