Twenty students from ���ϲ����� School of Law began offering free tax preparation assistance to low and moderate-income residents in the region on March 6. The program, which assisted clients in obtaining more than $45,000 in tax refunds and credits last year, will continue through April 15.

In her second appearance at ���ϲ����� School of Law in less than four years, Justice O'Connor told an audience of more than 300 law students that all states should appoint judges, rather than electing them, in order to improve the quality of the judicial system.

Nearly 90 percent of the members of ���ϲ����� School of Law's charter class were employed nine months after their May 2009 graduation. Based on criteria established by the National Association of Law Placement (NALP), ���ϲ����� Law reported an 89.7 percent job placement rate for 2009 graduates as of February 15, the date set by NALP for all participating law schools to report employment data.

Articles by three ���ϲ����� Law faculty members, exploring the question of whether judges in North Carolina should be elected or appointed, are featured in the Spring 2010 edition of The North Carolina State Bar Journal, along with a review of a public debate on the subject held at the law school in October.

���ϲ����� Law's William Hooper chapter of the professional law fraternity Phi Alpha Delta initiated a third class of 6 members on February 23, bringing total membership in the chapter to 67. The chapter was founded in March of 2009.

The Patent Law Committee of the NC Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Law Section and ���ϲ����� Law will co-host a roundtable presentation concerning "Strategies for Dealing with a Charge of Patent Infringement." Prior to the roundtable, the Committee will provide a primer on patent law for students interested in the practice area.

���ϲ����� Law's Distinguished Jurist in Residence James G. Exum, Jr., together with seven members of ���ϲ����� Law's adjunct faculty and seven attorneys who serve in an advisory capacity at the law school were recently named among the Top 100 North Carolina Super Lawyers of 2010 by Super Lawyers magazine.

During the month of February, ���ϲ����� Law's Black Law Students Association (BLSA) celebrated Black History Month by sending out weekly emails to the law school community paying homage to African Americans who had a positive impact on the social, legal, and economic conditions of the lives of Americans today.

Nine ���ϲ����� Law students and nine MBA students from ���ϲ�����'s Martha and Spencer Love School of Business participated in a first-time collaboration through an international business course that included meetings with top business and law leaders in China, Hong Kong, and Vietnam.
