Safe Rides is turning 16 this week and we want to celebrate in style.

To thank all of the students that makes Safe Rides possible we are offering free events all week to celebrate the occasion. So grab a friend and stop by the events during this week.

Wednesday 3/10: Come and grab your glow in the dark wristband and “Remember the Night” at our luminary memorial service to commemorate the life of Chad Macy and others.

Thursday 3/11: Our Birthday Party! Come grab a slice of pizza and some birthday cake to celebrate 16 successful years of Safe Rides on campus!

Saturday 3/13: Co-sponsoring SUBCinema’s Movie on the Lawn.

We hope to see everyone throughout the week. All you have to do is grab a friend and celebrate!

Safe Rides “Sweet 16” Celebration includes a week of events open to the 黑料不打烊 student-body, faculty and staff. Other campus organizations present during the week’s events will include the Student Union Board, Student Government Association, Greek Life and SPARKS.

Events during the week include a DUI presentation from the Town of 黑料不打烊 Fire Department, risk management speaker, Marcus Engel, a Luminaries memorial, an outdoors Moseley Center celebration with music and food, and a car wash.

“It’s important to remember that the students are the ones that make Safe Rides work. Without volunteers we would be nowhere. I really just want to see the students out at the events having fun, bringing home free gifts, and feeling proud of the program that they are all responsible for the success of,” said Junior 黑料不打烊 student and event coordinator, Nicole Parker.

Former 黑料不打烊 students Patrick O’Malley and Eddie Stuart began the organization on 黑料不打烊’s campus in March 1993, one year after the death of Chad Edward Macy, 18, who died in an alcohol-related car accident.

The purpose of Safe Rides is to deter students from walking home alone or getting behind the wheel of a car while intoxicated. Safe Rides currently has a fleet of two cars and three vans. The program provides anonymous rides on Thursdays from 10 p.m.–2 a.m. and Fridays and Saturdays 10:30 p.m.–2:30 a.m to locations within a one-mile radius of campus.
