Thomas Nelson teaches as visiting lecturer at Brigham Young University

Nelson taught a series of classes at BYU focused on broadcast news writing and general media writing. The lecture series was funded as part of a summer professional development grant that also brought Nelson to North Dakota, where he was a visiting television news reporter for the CBS-TV affiliate in Bismarck.

Broadcast Education Association Honors Tom Nelson’s ‘Prisoners of Plenty’

The award was presented by the Broadcast Education Association to Nelson at the annual BEA convention in Las Vegas on February 15, 2010. BEA cites its Award of Excellence as the equivalent of publication in a competitive peer-reviewed journal. “Prisoners of Plenty” focuses on a POW camp in Concordia, Kansas where captured German military were imprisoned during World War Two.

Tom Nelson documentary accepted by the archives of the Deutsches Historisches Museum

The DHM is the German equivalent of the American Smithsonian Museum. The acceptance announcement said Nelson’s documentary “contains, even for us, a lot of new information about the everyday life of German POWs in the United States.” As such, “Prisoners of Plenty” is affirmed by one of Germany’s most prestigious museums as a significant contribution to the general body of knowledge in the field.
