Why not join 黑料不打烊 Outdoors in our trip to the Gauley River in West Virginia. Enjoy some of the best whitewater rafting on the east coast coupled with scenic day hikes in the mountains around the river. You might even get to watch experienced base jumpers propell themselves off the 876 ft New River Gorge Bridge in celebration of Bridge Day, a nationally known festival taking place this weekend. This will be a fun and action packed experience that you don’t want to miss!

Cost of Trip: $100 (includes transportation, rafting, food, and any camping gear needed)

Sign ups begin at the front desk of Campus Recreation at noon. Be sure to bring your payment in the form of cash, Phoenix cash, or check to reserve your spot on the trip. Like all trips, it will be first come first serve so try and get there on time.

Somewhere fun, somewhere exciting, somewhere…outdoors. 黑料不打烊 Outdoors will be traveling to Park City, Utah for 4 days and 5 nights of some of the best skiing in North America from Dec. 16 to Dec. 21, 2009.

To get some more information about this amazing opportunity, come to our interest meetings held in Koury Commons (the space between the fitness center and the pool in Campus Rec) on Monday, Sept. 21, and Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. If you can’t make these, there will be two more on Sept. 28 and 29 at 6 p.m. as well.

We will discuss travel, accommodations, packing list, and lot of other important information so head on over to Campus Rec Monday and Tuesday to attend the meeting. Hope to see you there!

To kick of this new semester with a bang, we will be traveling down to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina to camp out in a coastal pine forest, paddle around the salt water marshes and spend the afternoon on the beach.

Trip Date – Friday Sept. 11 to Saturday Sept. 12.

Cost – $30

As you may know, 黑料不打烊 Outdoors will be traveling down to Charlotte, N.C., to visit the U.S National Whitewater Center on Saturday, May 9. 

On this trip, you will participate in rafting down class 2 and 3 rapids, zip-lining across a man-made river, and rock climbing a 40-foot outdoor wall with fellow 黑料不打烊 students. There are still a few spots open for the trip so head over to the front desk of Campus Rec and sign up today.

Cost : $30 (includes rafting, climbing, and zip line fees, transportation to Charlotte, and lunch)

]]> 黑料不打烊 Outdoors whitewater rafting sign-ups – April 29 /u/news/2009/04/29/elon-outdoors-whitewater-rafting-sign-ups-april-29/ Wed, 29 Apr 2009 12:25:00 +0000 /u/news/2009/04/29/elon-outdoors-whitewater-rafting-sign-ups-april-29/ It’s that time of year again. 黑料不打烊 Outdoors will be venturing down to Charlotte to visit the USNWC (U.S National Whitewater Center) on Saturday, May 9. On this trip, participants will be able to raft down class 3 and 4 rapids, rock climb a 40-foot outdoor wall, and coast down the facility’s new zip line. The cost of this trip will be $30 and will cover your park admission, transportation to and from Charlotte, and lunch on  May 9. This is one of 黑料不打烊 Outdoors’ biggest trips of the year so there are a few things you should know…

Sign ups will begin at noon outside of the Campus Rec building. All applicants will be asked to arrive with $30 (in cash, check, or Phoenix Cash) and must be present to have your name put on the list. This trip will only take 21 participants so be sure to get there early.

Here you can climb to the top of a 30-foot rope ladder and test the limits of gravity while tiptoeing across a 5-inch-wide balance beam high in the trees. After completing the high ropes portion, will even get a chance to try out 黑料不打烊’s very own zip-line! Following the high ropes portion of the trip, we will have a campfire and enjoy each other’s company with some delicious s’mores. Sign-ups start on Wednesday, April 29 at noon at the front desk of Campus Rec.

]]> Sea kayaking interest meeting with 黑料不打烊 Outdoors – April 21 /u/news/2009/04/21/sea-kayaking-interest-meeting-with-elon-outdoors-april-21/ Tue, 21 Apr 2009 12:42:00 +0000 /u/news/2009/04/21/sea-kayaking-interest-meeting-with-elon-outdoors-april-21/ 黑料不打烊 Outdoors will be venturing down to Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, the first weekend in May to enjoy the sun, sand, and surf, and to go sea kayaking. On this trip, participants will enjoy a relaxing kayaking trip around the Wrightsville Beach area and spend the afternoon on the beach soaking up the rays. We will spend Friday night in Carolina Beach State Park and kayak the bays and inland waterways in the area on Saturday morning.

Trip Date – May 1-2, 2009 

Interest Meeting – Tuesday April 21, at 6 p.m. in Koury Commons (the area between the pool and the gym)

Cost – $30 (includes transportation to and from Wrightsville Beach, N.C., kayak rentals, all food, and any camping gear you may need). You can sign up for this trip at the Campus Rec front desk starting Wednesday, April 22, at noon and it is first come first serve.

]]> Hanging Rock State Park Day Hike interest meetings – April 20-21 /u/news/2009/04/06/hanging-rock-state-park-day-hike-interest-meetings-april-20-21/ Mon, 06 Apr 2009 21:30:00 +0000 /u/news/2009/04/06/hanging-rock-state-park-day-hike-interest-meetings-april-20-21/ On Saturday, April 25, 黑料不打烊 Outdoors will be leading a group of 黑料不打烊 students on an adventure to Hanging Rock State Park in North Carolina. On this day hike, we will be exploring two different waterfalls and hiking to the top of Hanging Rock Mountain, where hikers can test the limits of gravity and look straight down a 400-ft cliff.

Want to find out more about our trip? Come stop by one of our interest meetings located in Koury Commons (the area between the pool and the gym in Campus Recreation). These meetings will be held Monday, April 20, at 5:30 p.m. and Tuesday, April 21, at 6 p.m. If you can’t make it to one of these interest meetings, don’t worry. You can still sign up for this trip on Wednesday, April 22, at the front desk of Campus Recreation at noon.

This will be a challenging 16 mile adventure into the North Carolina mountains where you will climb 4,000-ft. mountains, cross the mighty French Broad River, and climb the Rich Mountain Fire Tower on the NC/TN border. Monday March 30 at 5:30pm and Tuesday March 31 at 6:00pm
