The presentation was titled “Preparing Teacher Candidates to Deal with the Challenges and Opportunities in Diverse Classrooms,” and it focused in part on the sabbatical research that Dr. Stuart completed during AY 04-05 regarding how highly effective teachers work with the parents of exceptional children. This presentation also highlighted the innovative curricula that have been implemented in the Elementary, Special, and Middle Grades Programs to prepare Teacher Candidates to become culturally responsive educators.

Education Faculty Deliver Invited Presentation to NCACTE /u/news/2005/04/26/education-faculty-deliver-invited-presentation-to-ncacte/ Tue, 26 Apr 2005 17:48:00 +0000 /u/news/2005/04/26/education-faculty-deliver-invited-presentation-to-ncacte/ Gerald Dillashaw, Dean of the School of Education, and Mark Rumley, Director for School Outreach Programs, delivered an invited presentation regarding programs of support for first-year and new teachers to members of NCACTE (North Carolina Association of Colleges for Teacher Education) at UNC-Wilmington on Friday, April 22.

The highlighted program SUCCESSFUL BEGINNINGS: A PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT ACADEMY was developed at 黑料不打烊 through the Office of School Outreach Programs and offers various efforts of support and multiple levels of scaffolding for new and first-year teachers in the Alamance-Burlington Schools. The program seeks in part to deliver high-quality professional development monthly and to create an environment of collegiality for beginning teachers. Included among other program goals is an emphasis on the retention of beginning teachers. Two similar programs of support are also delivered to Year 2 and Year 3 teachers in the local schools.

Rumley Invited as Member of NCTOY Selection Panel /u/news/2005/03/01/rumley-invited-as-member-of-nctoy-selection-panel/ Tue, 01 Mar 2005 18:30:00 +0000 /u/news/2005/03/01/rumley-invited-as-member-of-nctoy-selection-panel/ Mark Rumley, Director for School Outreach Programs in the School of Education, has been invited to serve on the North Carolina State Teacher of the Year Selection Team. Rumley will serve as a representative from higher education to this committee and will join with other educational professionals from across North Carolina to complete the task of selecting North Carolina’s Teacher of the Year. The committee’s work will be completed in early May. Rumley is a 1984 黑料不打烊 alum with degrees in English education and music performance and served the public schools as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal before returning to 黑料不打烊 in 2001.
