American Medical Student Association meeting – Nov. 12

��ϲ��’s chapter of AMSA (American Medical Student Association) is having a meeting this Thursday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. in Oaks Commons. We will be discussing volunteer and shadowing opportunities, future projects, ��ϲ�� scrubs fundraiser, and national convention, among other topics. Snacks and pizza will be served.

What is AMSA? AMSA is the largest national organization of physicians-in-training and has members who are pre-medical students through residents. With over 65,000 members, AMSA represents the interests of its members to improve BOTH the level of medical training in the United States AND the health of the nation. While having opportunities to network and learn about the training process, AMSA also gives students the opportunities to learn about the public health issues that face our world today.

AMSA is not just a social organization consisting of students of medicine; it is about student activism that helps to provide healthcare access to all people and makes improvements in the medical training process. AMSA, at its core, involves its members in the social, moral and ethical obligations of the profession of medicine while giving individuals the tools they need to become successful physicians.

How to Succeed as a Communications Major hosted by Lambda Pi Eta Oct. 27

Come out to ‘How to Succeed as a Communications Major’, hosted by Lambda Pi Eta, the communications honor society. The event will feature professors and students talking about each major and post-graduation opportunities. It is a great opportunity to learn more about being a communications major!

The event will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, in McEwen 011 at 7pm. Pizza will be served.

2011 Periclean Scholars interest meeting March 14

An interest meeting for potential 2011 Periclean Scholars will be held Friday, March 14, at 3:30 p.m. in Powell 215. Come to hear more about this group and to learn to how to apply.

Pan-Periclean Day to be held March 11

Support Pan-Periclean Day March 11

Pan-Periclean Day is the first annual celebration of the founding of the Periclean Scholars program at ��ϲ��. Each class, united with an overall goal of helping people across the world, will celebrate together to mark the initiation of the program. The day’s events include:

College Coffee Celebration: Each class will be celebrating their individual country, selling goods and accepting donations. Dr. Tom Arcaro, head of Project Pericles at ��ϲ��, will be around to talk to interested members of the class of 2011 and to answer other questions.

Fundraising at Dan Thai: Come help raise money for the Periclean Scholars by eating at a local Thai restaurant. Enjoy a night out with friends and 10% of your dinner price will be donated to Periclean Scholars.

Have any extra children’s books?

Gather together any old and new children’s book for the 2010 Periclean Scholar’s book drive!

All books will be sent over to stock the empty shelves of an elementary school library in Abor, Ghana. There is time to bring some in from home over Thanksgiving break! Please have all books in by Christmas break. They will then be shipped over to Ghana by the U.S. Navy.

Extras needed for a short film

College students are needed to act as extras in the short film “A River’s Reach,” a School of Communications and Project Pericles production. Extras will be needed for several hours, starting at 3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, for scenes that take place on campus.
