This event is at 7:30 p.m., Monday, March 17, in the Zone.

They are workers at what was once called the TOS Dominicana Factory but is now called the Dos Rios factory, which is located in Bonao in the Dominican Republic. This factory is directly owned by Hanes and produces plain white T-shirts (some of which are used by college licensees such as Steve and Barry’s for university clothes).

Early in 2007, workers at the factory attempted to form a union in response to low wages, forced overtime, and mistreatment of workers by management. Management responded by running an anti-union campaign that eventually led to the firing of a good number of workers (as well as some threats). Despite all of this, the workers still had a majority of the factory that wanted to be in the union. Hanes refused to recognize it, and said that the government needed to come in and verify that they had a majority. The government verified that they did, but Hanes still refuses to recognize the union. So, we have been working to put pressure on Hanes for about eight months now to get them to do something about this.

For information on their particular factory, please check out the factory report on the WRC Web site. The address is below.
